Arsenal needed penalties to overcome a stubborn FC Porto side, with David Raya being the hero in a nerve-jangling shootout as the Gunners advanced.

Arsenal are through to the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time since 2010 as Mikel Arteta's side survived a nervous tie at the Emirates Stadium.

Leandro Trossard opened the scoring near half-time after a delicious ball from Martin Odegaard as Trossard cooly slotted home to bring Arsenal level in the tie.

With Porto showing their ability to be a threat, the Gunners needed to keep their defence tight and David Raya was forced into a couple of saves.

Neither team was able to break the deadlock as extra-time ensued, but again, neither side could find the breakthrough as a penalty shootout was needed to find a winner.

With the Gunners scoring all four of their penalties and Porto missing two, Arteta's side escaped the dreaded round of 16 for the first since in over a decade.

Arteta confused everyone with the loan-signing of Raya, but over the last couple of months, he has shown why he is an upgrade over Aaron Ramsdale.

After Aaron's error-filled performance against Brentford, Raya returned and showed why he is the undisputed No. 1 in north London.

He produced several stellar saves in regulation to keep his team in the tie, and when the penalty shootout came around, he forced two superb saves to send his team through to the quarter-finals.
