Arsenal advanced into the quarter-finals of the Champions League following a dramatic penalty shootout victory over FC Porto on Tuesday night.

There was a grand sense of occasion at the Emirates, with the Gunners faithful certainly responding to the boss' pre-match war cry. However, such energy was exempt from much of Arsenal's first-half showing as they allowed the wily hosts to settle.

Chances arrived at a premium for the hosts while the impressive David Raya saved well from Evanilson.

However, a genius Martin Odegaard sequence released the growing tension in north London as the skipper sparkled to tee up Leandro Trossard for the game's opener just before half-time.

The goal ignited a spark at the start of the second half, but outside of Odegaard's ruled-out effort, the Gunners continued to toil against their impressive opponents, who started to threaten in transition.

The Emirates held its breath during the contest's final act as the two sides drifted towards an extended period. With no second goal arriving in the 90, to extra time we went!

Porto remained comfortable in north London, with the shrewd Sergio Conceicao ensuring his side remained fresh throughout. As is so often the case with these extended periods, there was little action as the game maintained its bitty, stop-start nature. Alas, the first Champions League penalty shootout since the 2016 final beckoned.

Raya rose to the occasion, however, as he twice denied Porto from the spot to send Arsenal, who were perfect from 12 yards, into the quarter-finals.

Here are the Arsenal player ratings from Tuesday night's victory.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - 9/10 - Proactive off his line and made crucial saves when he needed to, this was one of Raya's best performances for the club yet. Hero in the shootout.

Ben White (RB) - 6/10 - Almost set up Kai Havertz in the opening period with a teasing back post cross. White was otherwise fairly quiet in possession, but Galeno didn't get much out of him going the other way.

William Saliba (CB) - 5.5/10 - As erratic as he's been this season in the opening hour. Saliba was off the pace, making a couple of questionable decisions aerially. Booked at the end of the first half, but won his headers for the remainder of the game.

Gabriel (CB) - 6.5/10 - Wasn't disturbed in the channel and stuck to his assignment well throughout. Wasn't a factor in the Porto box.

Jakub Kiwior (LB) - 7.5/10 - Good luck getting your job back, Alex. Kiwior was tested throughout, but he produced a superb performance in the second half. Tired in extra time.
