Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Brighton at Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon despite taking the lead in the first half.

Kai Havertz opened the scoring for the Gunners in the first half. The German got on the end of Bukayo Saka's pass and lobbed the ball over the oncoming Bart Verbruggen. After controlling the first half, Arsenal's luck changed after the break.

Early in the second half, Declan Rice was sent off in controversial circumstances after committing a second yellow card offence. Brighton made the most of their man advantage, equalising ten minutes later through Joao Pedro.

The Gunners took their foot completely off the pedal following the equaliser but withstood the Seagulls' pressure to secure a valuable point.

Here are the Arsenal player ratings from Saturday's stalemate.

Arsenal 1-1 Brighton player ratings

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - 7/10 - Arguably Arsenal's hero once again after making three saves against Brighton. Distributed the ball well at times with both throws and kicks. Could not do much about the equaliser after saving Yankuba Minteh's initial effort and parrying it into the path of Joao Pedro.

Ben White (RB) - 6.5/10 - Did not offer as much in attack as he usually does but defended well throughout the game. Won three out of four tackles and made five clearances.

William Saliba (CB) - 7/10 - Another solid game at the back from the young Frenchman. Completed 11 defensive actions and won six duels throughout the 90 minutes. Played a key part in securing a point for Arsenal.

Gabriel (CB) - 6.5/10 - Defended well, completing ten defensive actions. Some could argue he could have marked Joao Pedro better for his goal but there was not much he could do about it.

Jurrien Timber (LB) - 6/10 - A poor showing from the Dutch international who looked far from his best. Looked shaky in defence, making a few poor clearances, and failed to offer much in attack. Withdrawn with ten minutes to play due to injury.
