3 takeaways from Arsenal's 3-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League

Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka were brilliant in attack, but Arsenal continued to display a few worrying flaws defensively during a far-from-routine 3-1 win over Southampton in the Premier League.

A goal and an assist during the 4-2 win over Leicester City last time out hinted Martinelli might finally be back as a truly special player in Arsenal's attack. Middling work against PSG pumped the brakes on the hype train, but Martinelli's spectacular finish to thwart the Saints is more compelling evidence of the Brazilian's comeback.

Martinelli took his goal with the deftness and composure in the box that previously marked him out as a true finisher. It had been a while since the Gunners had seen this level of coolness in front of goal from their No. 11.

Having Martinelli back on form will be vital for Arsenal's title chances. He can add the goals needed to ease the burden on Havertz and Saka. Those goals will also be crucial to weening Arsenal off an over-reliance on set pieces.

No team is going to lift the Premier League trophy being one-dimensional. Martinelli's straight-line pace and keen eye for goal adds another vital string to the bow for Arteta's multi-faceted team.

More goals are likely to be needed when a previously rock-solid defence is suddenly showing signs of weakness.
