Almost a quarter into the century, a brief look at Arsenal's transfer history will tell you that things haven't always gone their way. However, since Mikel Arteta took charge at the club, he has either gotten what he wanted or worked tirelessly to make his plan B work better than his plan A. With this in mind, are Arsenal fans being too optimistic about the rumoured Ivan Toney transfer?

Well, looking at the newspaper headlines today would suggest that actually, Arsenal fans have all the reasons in the world to be confident about an Ivan Toney transfer.

Arsenal fans should be confident about Ivan Toney transfer for these 2 reasons

According to one report by TEAMTALK, Arsenal are one of the clubs to become "on alert" as talks between Ivan Toney and Brentford over a contract extension have hit a stalemate. For context, his current deal expires in just over a year, so a summer sale might be the best option for Brentford if he doesn't commit his future to the club.

A second report from Football Transfers may be of interest to Arsenal fans, as they have claimed that Brentford are currently looking in the transfer market for striker options. Interestingly, they have located Jonathan David of Lille, who would be a sure starter for most Premier League teams, so it looks as though they are looking to REPLACE Ivan Toney this summer.

For these two reasons, I believe Arsenal fans should be confident about signing Ivan Toney in the summer. He is an ambitious player and having started back right where he left off in the Premier League before his ban, he is ready for the next big step in his career.

Mikel Arteta has done well to build an efficient team with two great goalkeepers, one of the best defensive systems in the world, a complete midfield and a fluid attack. However, realists know that the squad is far from perfect. I hate to bring up the age-old, Michael-Owen-level cliche but if Arsenal want to win the league, they need a goal scorer.

I'm sorry for bringing up the blatantly obvious analysis that ANYBODY could give but there's a reason why everybody says the Gunners need a Gunner in attack. Gabriel Jesus is great but he's not a great goal scorer while Eddie Nketiah is a great substitute but he is not at the level to start every game.

Bringing in a proven goal-scorer like Ivan Toney could be the missing piece to this title charge so if he does arrive, Arsenal fans should be very, very excited.
