Arsenal are struggling with a fresh injury concern as Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes has been forced to withdraw from the national team squad for upcoming friendly matches.

This development compounds the injury setbacks for the Gunners, as Gabriel's teammate Gabriel Martinelli had already been replaced in the squad due to a foot injury he sustained during the 6-0 win at Sheffield United on 4 March.

The news of Gabriel's withdrawal was confirmed by the Brazilian Football Association on Monday afternoon. The absence of the 26-year-old adds to the growing list of injured players for Arsenal, who are currently vying for the Premier League title.

In light of Gabriel's injury, Brazil manager Dorival Junior has called up Juventus defender Gleison Bremer as a replacement for the friendly fixtures against England and Spain scheduled for this month.

Dorival Junior expressed his disappointment at the latest injury setback, emphasising the need to work with a slightly expanded squad to cover for such eventualities.

“I had already communicated previously that we will work with a slightly more extensive list," he explained.

“A pre-call — we can put it that way — and again, today, we had another casualty. Unfortunately, Gabriel Magalhães is uncalled. In his place, we are calling Bremer, from Juventus.”

Gabriel, who has made significant contributions to both Arsenal and the Brazilian national team since his debut, scored his maiden international goal against Venezuela last October. His absence from the upcoming friendlies raises concerns for both club and country.

With Arsenal gearing up for a crucial period in their season, including a possible title-decider clash against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on 31 March, Arteta will be eager for Gabriel's injury not to be serious.

The Gunners are also set to face Luton and Brighton in the Premier League before turning their attention to the UEFA Champions League, where they are scheduled to meet Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
