Arsenal injury news: Ben White or Jurrien Timber can play vs Southampton
By Kian Long
Fans have been treated to some splendid Arsenal injury news ahead of the Premier League match against Southampton. Either Jurrien Timber or Ben White can play.
Arsenal are in great form at the moment. Despite their best player Martin Odegaard being injured, they have put together a nice string of results in his absence.
Last week, Arsenal beat Leicester City in the Premier League. It ended up being more dramatic than the statistics would suggest. In that match, Arsenal dominated.
Against PSG, they didn't dominate. However, two first-half goals and great game management from Mikel Arteta got them over the line in the Champions League.
So, looking ahead to this weekend, what is the recent Arsenal injury news vs Southampton?
Arsenal injury news: Ben White or Jurrien Timber can play vs Southampton
According to Mikel Arteta in a recent press conference, either Ben White or Jurrien Timber can play against Southampton. He said that a final decision must be made but as of right now, it's good news.
In his own words, Mikel Arteta said: "There will be a decision to make this afternoon whether to involve [White or Timber], yes or no. They are close. It's good news"
Speaking on the Jurrien Timber injury in midweek, Mikel Arteta confirmed there is nothing to worry about. He was only subbed off against PSG for risk-management, rather than a confirmed injury.
Arteta said: "[Timber] felt something muscular and he wasn’t certain. So I didn’t want to take any risks. He’s been out for a year and he’s played a lot of minutes, probably more minutes than we would have wanted in the past few weeks and we have to manage him."
Jurrien Timber has been one of Arsenal's best players so far this season. In fact, it's been at the expense of Ben White, who faces an uphill battle to re-stake his claim in the starting lineup.
If Jurrien Timber is able to play for Arsenal against Southampton, it would be a welcomed boost for Mikel Arteta. It is the final game before the October international break, so keeping the morale high is a worthwhile factor to consider.
Arsenal fans need no reminding about what happened the last time Arsenal faced Southampton in the league. In fact, that performance against the Saints might have cost Arsenal the title in the 2022/23 season. Less of the same please, Arsenal (Partey, in particular).
