Before the recent win over Southampton, Martin Odegaard provided a positive Arsenal injury update. Fans hope to see him back after the international break.

In the September international break, Martin Odegaard picked up an unfortunate ankle injury while representing Norway. At the time, it looked back and since then, Odegaard has missed a significant chunk of action for Arsenal.

During this time, Arsenal have somehow coped well in his absence. They are still yet to lose this season, despite playing Tottenham and Man City away from home without Odegaard.

With that being said, Mikel Arteta would still like his captain available again, sooner rather than later. So, what is the current Arsenal injury update, and how is Martin Odegaard progressing?

What injury does Martin Odegaard have?

Martin Odegaard is currently on the treatment table for an ankle injury. The injury was picked up while on international break with Norway.

This is not the first ankle injury which Martin Odegaard has sustained. In fact, he missed the end of the 2020/21 season due to an ankle injury, missing four games for Arsenal.

Currently, Martin Odegaard's ankle is believed to be significantly injured.

When will Martin Odegaard return from injury?

According to Football London, Martin Odegaard is progressing well in his injury rehab. He now has two weeks to recover before Arsenal's next fixture and there is a possibility he will be involved in the squad after the international break.

In his own words, Martin Odegaard said: "I’m getting better and better by the day and feel it’s going well. When you feel like things are moving forward, it gives you motivation to do more and more and work harder. Today is our last game before another international break, so that gives me some more time to work on the rehab, too."

Needless to say, Martin Odegaard is not representing Norway in the October international break, despite being one of two star players. So, he can solely focus on preparing for Arsenal action.

After the October international break, Arsenal face Bournemouth at home. Then, the following weekend, it's a trip to Anfield Stadium.

It would be an incredible boost for the Anfield trip to have Martin Odegaard available for action again. In Arsenal's last visit to Anfield, Martin Odegaard was one of the best players on the pitch, providing the assist for Gabriel's goal in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking on his potential return date, Martin Odegaard said: "Hopefully it won’t be much longer — I think we will know more as soon as I get out on the training pitches and we see how my ankle responds to that. At the moment, it’s progressing well and it looks better than we were thinking, but we’ve still got to take every day as it comes."

Martin Odegaard has been missed. However, rushing him back to action was never on Mikel Arteta's agenda.

Who can replace Martin Odegaard at Arsenal?

Currently, Kai Havertz is fulfilling the role which Martin Odegaard fills. Kai Havertz plays just behind the striker, providing a greater goal-scoring threat than Odegaard, who is better at creating chances.

Wearing the captain's armband in Martin Odegaard's absence has been Jorginho or Bukayo Saka.

Will Martin Odegaard be available for fantasy football?

If Martin Odegaard is available for Arsenal after the October international break, he will more likely play from the bench, rather than starting.

Then, when Odegaard is back to full match fitness, he will be in the starting lineup for Arsenal again.
