Arsenal open contract talks with Takehiro Tomiyasu
Defender has enjoyed a resurgence in year three
Club also in talks with Ben White over extension
Arsenal have opened talks with Takehiro Tomiyasu over a contract extension, and the two parties are expected to come to an agreement.
The defender is enjoying a resurgence at the start of his third season at the club. Tomiyasu was a hit during his debut campaign before he enjoyed a quieter second term as a result of Ben White's right-back conversion.
While Tomiyasu played second fiddle to White last season, Tomiyasu is currently enjoying a run in Mikel Arteta's starting XI and it appears as if it is his job to lose again. With the boss placing a greater emphasis upon security and control in their search for the Premier League title, Tomiyasu has thrived and the club are set to reward him with a new contract.

The Gunners have been proactive regarding contract extensions as of late, and it appears as if they'll soon strike a deal with Tomiyasu. The defender's current deal expires in 2025.
According to David Ornstein, Arsenal have opened talks with the player's entourage and it's just a matter of time until Tomiyasu signs on the dotted line.
However, the club are also keen on extending the contract of White as they seek to fortify the right-back position.
While Tomiyasu's impressive form has undoubtedly played a role in Arsenal's willingness to extend, transfer interest from overseas is also surely a factor. Inter were said to be keen on signing the Japanese international in the summer, and Bayern were reportedly plotting a move in 2024.
However, a new contract in north London would quickly deter any potential suitors.
It's clear that Tomiyasu is re-emerging as an integral part of Arteta's system, with his performance against Lens in Arsenal's 6-0 victory depicting his rise. Arteta described the versatile defender as "excellent" after he notched two first half assists.
Tomiyasu's run in the side is set to continue at the weekend when the Gunners welcome Wolves to the Emirates.
