All gas, no brakes for Arsenal as Premier League title chase begins
By Adam Schultz
Arsenal has been in good enough form throughout pre-season, but now, as Wolves come into view in the league, the need for perfection is high.
Well, Arsenal fans, we've nearly made it. After the long, arduous pre-season, the Premier League season is upon us.
With the Gunners have been in good enough form over the preseason, winning a handful of games and playing some neat stuff in the process, the time has come for it all to come together when it counts.
While yes, the wins over Manchester United (2-1), Bayer Leverkusen (4-1) and Lyon (2-0) were good for the soul, in the grand scheme of things, they mean little.
But Arsenal's next opponents, Wolves, who they welcome to the Emirates to open the Premier League season, it takes no a whole new meaning - it's for real now.
Given Manchester City's ridiculous end to last season that saw Arsenal be just about perfect in the title run-in, there is already a sense of no slip-ups allowed on Matchday 1.
While that might seem a little heavy handed, getting off to a hot start is crucial and considering that the majority of the Gunners' star players only returned from International duty a few weeks ago, there might be a few who are a little less than 100 percent.
But Gary O-Neil's side will be no pushovers and will be looking to play the role of villan on opening day.
The Gunners have had a good preseason, and with Riccardo Calafiori the only new signing walking through the doors (Jurrien Timber possibly seen as a new signing), it's as you were for Arsenal in terms of Mikel Arteta's starting XI.
We saw Arsenal obliterate countless opponents on the carpet of the Emirates last season, and with the league season now beginning, the Gunners simply must get off to a blistering start and bank points early.
All gas, no brakes, please, Arsenal.
