Arsenal's priorities at end of 2024 summer transfer window - ranked
- The Gunners still have pressing matters to attend to before the window slams shut
There is just over one week of the summer transfer window remaining and Arsenal still have several priorities to handle.
The Gunners have made just two first team signings and one sale since the window opened in June, a very low amount by their standards. While Mikel Arteta does have his best squad since being appointed Arsenal manager, there are still a few tweaks that need to be made.
In the final days of the transfer window, Arteta and Arsenal must attend to their remaining priorities, which are as follows.
1. Wrap up Mikel Merino deal
Arsenal have been in talks to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad for weeks. Arteta's side are reported to have reached an agreement on personal terms with the Euro 2024 winner but are still negotiating a fee with his club.
The Gunners must wrap up this deal before the window shuts to ensure they have good depth and quality in midfield for this season. This is even more crucial considering he has been seen by many fans as the much-needed replacement for Granit Xhaka. Merino was left out of Real Sociedad's squad for their opening match against Rayo Vallecano so this will be a positive sign to Gooners.
Thomas Partey returned to the Arsenal starting XI toward the end of last season and started his side's opener against Wolves. Despite his quality, the Ghanaian can not be relied upon due to his fitness uncertainties. As a result, the signing of Merino, who has a decent injury record, is crucial to make sure Arteta has a constantly fit midfield.
