Arteta loves a goalkeeper signing.

As a loanee-turned-permanent squad member, Raya is only just behind Neto in the ‘unspectacular’ stakes or might even raise them given his position – each player being our fifth and sixth goalkeeper arrivals in just four years, respectively.

Nevertheless, it is still an excellent deal and should see the Spaniard lock down his spot for the long term, especially as he has been our top target for that berth since 2020. £27m is also a very respectable fee, and his presence has made—and will continue to make—an inestimable difference to our backline solidity.

That save from Ollie Watkins has repaid half the money already; a few trophies at the end of 2024/25 will nicely offset the rest.
