As the summer transfer window rapidly approaches, it is a bittersweet feeling for Arsenal fans. On the one hand, it presents a great opportunity to strengthen the squad with new additions but on the other hand, Aaron Ramsdale's days in an Arsenal jersey are limited.

The English shot-stopper who proved to be one of Mikel Arteta's greatest signings so far has fallen down the pecking order due to the great form of David Raya. It is through no fault of his own and he remains a popular figure in the Arsenal camp, making it an emotional farewell when it inevitably happens.

Indeed, three Premier League clubs are currently eyeing Aaron Ramsdale, so he is not short of interested clubs.

But what does Aaron Ramsdale's departure mean for Arsenal? Of course, it will be an emotional departure for the fans to take but the recruitment team must also ponder who they will bring in as a replacement.

Karl Hein is currently the third-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal but he lacks the necessary experience should he be called upon. Therefore, somebody must come in to replace Aaron Ramsdale on the bench.

Arsenal consider spectacular return for former star to replace Aaron Ramsdale

According to a report from Standard, Arsenal are considering a monumental return for former Arsenal goalkeeper and academy graduate Wojciech Szczesny.

The Polish international needs no introduction to Arsenal fans. For many years, five to be precise, Szczesny was the first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal.

Coming out of the academy, he embodied everything the club was about. He had many great moments both on and off the pitch, winning the FA Cup twice, the Community Shield and the Premier League Golden Glove. Off the pitch, he was involved in trolling Tottenham fans alongside Jack Wilshere. That will ALWAYS go down well in Arsenal fans' books.

Since leaving to sign for Juventus in 2017, Szczesny has won the Serie A three times and become one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Ageing at 34 years old and soon to be entering the final year of his Juventus contract, it makes sense that the Old Lady could consider a sale this summer. For Szczesny, it would be a fairytale end to his career, to retire at the club he started.

However, Szczesny is capable of starting every game at the highest level. He has started every game except two in the Serie A this season. Should he join Arsenal, Arteta will value Raya over his former teammate so it comes down to whether or not Szczesny values his playing time at the end of his playing career.
