Arsenal will take on Premier League title rivals Liverpool at the Emirates in the FA Cup third round next month.

The Gunners were the fifth side out of the hat on Sunday's draw and were paired up against Jurgen Klopp's Reds. The two sides, who look poised to compete for the Premier League title this season along with Manchester City, are yet to face off this season.

Their first duel is scheduled for 23 December 2023 at Anfield.

After leading the club to their record 14th FA Cup triumph at the end of his debut season, Mikel Arteta has had little success in this competition. The Gunners haven't progressed beyond the fourth round since they last lifted the trophy and they'll have their work cut out to advance into round four in January.

While Arsenal will have the benefit of hosting the tie, Arteta's men have been handed one of the toughest possible draws at such an early stage.

Other leading clubs have been handed much kinder draws. Tottenham will host Burnley, Manchester United travel to Wigan, Manchester City host Huddersfield, Chelsea take on Preston, while Aston Villa visit Middlesbrough.

Newcastle's trip to bitter rivals Sunderland was the other standout tie of the third round, with fixtures set to take place over the first weekend in January.
