From one formidable foe to another, Arsenal had not beaten Manchester City in the Premier League since 2015 and had not taken a single point off Pep Guardiola's side since 2017.

With the Cityzens the clear favourites for the Premier League title at the start of the season and going into this game, it represented an excellent opportunity for the club to right previous wrongs and set up a very exciting season in which we could go toe-to-toe with the best team in the country.

Was it the prettiest game of the season? No, far from it. But it was the excellent execution of a tactical plan to undo a formidable opposition.

In fact, according to SofaScore, Arsenal actually recorded zero 'big chances' in the game, but that did not matter as, eventually, the chance to seal the win presented itself thanks to Gabriel Martinelli.

Not only was this result huge for the club on a purely points basis, but it also instilled the much-needed belief that Arsenal Football Club can once again push Europe's beat sides all the way in a competitive environment.
