As we head into the January transfer window, Arsenal are expected to make moves to bolster their side to keep their title hopes alive.

With a series of injuries plaguing the north London side, there is a growing anticipation that they will explore loan deals and potential player exits to facilitate incoming transfers.

While there's not been a lot of movement from the Gunners thus far, there are updates regarding their targets. Let’s have a look at where the Gunners stand with potential targets a week into the January transfer window.

Arsenal January transfer window round-up - Week 1

1. Dusan Vlahovic

Fabrizio Romano revealed that Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli made a statement on a possible deal of Vlahovic to Arsenal. Giuntoli said: "Bid from Arsenal for Dusan Vlahović? We don’t know anything about that story, there’s nothing.

“Vlahović is NOT for sale,” he added.

However, Sky Sports revealed that the Italian side could be convinced with an offer of around €60m.

2. Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney has been linked to Arsenal for a while now. However, the interest has been boosted since the summer transfer window. The Gunners are in a rather challenging situation in the attacking front. Toney is a player appreciated by Arteta however, Brentford do not want to let go of the player unless there is a convincing amount bid for the player.

Speaking on Toney’s future, Bees manager Thomas Frank said: "He is a Brentford player. He is here, we miss a few offensive players and I cannot see why we should sell him. I would love to have him here for a long time. It is not for me to discuss [an offer], but if I could ever recommend one, it would need to be an unbelievable price, so he will stay here," he concluded.

The unbelievable price mentioned was revealed to be ₤100m. Chelsea are expected to compete with Arsenal for the player however, it will be interesting to see if any of the sides are able to match the massive asking from the Bees.

3. Amadou Onana

Football Correspondent for teamTALK, Fraz Fletcher, revealed that Arteta is a huge admirer of Onana. They also report that the Gunners have switched their attention from Douglas Luiz over to Onana and expect them to make a move for the Everton midfielder.

Fabrizio Romano revealed via the Kick podcast that Arsenal could bring in a full back in January. Romano said: “A new full-back for Arsenal? Yes, it is a possibility, it is a possibility for Arsenal to bring in a new full-back in January.

“They have to see what opportunity they can find, if it’s a loan deal, but Arsenal are exploring options in that position, they are in the full-backs market, I can confirm that, there is a possibility, there is a chance, we will have to see, but I think it’s a possibility,” he added.

A few days ago, it was revealed that there is a chance that Arsenal could explore the option of recalling Kieran Tierney early from his loan stint at Real Sociedad. However, speaking to the Spanish newspaper Noticia De Gipuzkoa, Tierney said: “Several people have asked me about this [possibility of leaving Real Sociedad] but the answer is no. I am definitely staying here [in January].”

5. Eddie Nketiah exit rumours

Eddie Nketiah has been linked with a move away from the Gunners and a possible destination is Crystal Palace. Speaking on Palace’s transfer plans, David Ornstein revealed: “They [Crystal Palace] have a firm interest in Eddie Nketiah, but Arsenal have not indicated any desire to let him go. If that changes, I’d expect Palace to push hard.”

We can expect more movement and more rumours to follow in the next few days however, as of now there is nothing that has gained proper traction for the Gunners. Mikel Arteta is surely assessing his moves and will hope to have some incoming as his side continue to struggle with injuries.
