Arsenal defeated a stubborn Wolves side 2-0 at the Emirates as Mikel Arteta's side got the season off to a perfect start.

We are officially underway in the Premier League title race and Mikel Arteta's Arsenal claimed a hard fought 2-0 victory over a stubborn Wolves side at the Emirates.

With Kai Havertz getting on the end of a delicious Bukayo Saka cross in the first half as the German headed Arsenal ahead after just 25 minutes, it was just what the doctor ordered.

But Wolves worked their way into the contest with David Raya having to make a couple of saves to keep the lead intact.

It wouldn't be until the 74th minute when nerves were settled and yes, it was Saka who provided the moment of brilliance. He picked the ball up from Havertz, drove into the box, shifted the ball to his left foot and let fly with an unstoppable shot to ripple the net.

Game. Set. Match.

While it wasn't "perfect" overall, it was a win and a clean sheet for Arsenal as it's title charge got off to a great start.

Here are three takeaways from the contest.

Room for improvement

The first matchday of the season was always going to be a bit up and down and Arsenal's performce was exactly that. There were a few uncharactristic errors from William Saliba and Thomas Partey, while good in some instances, left gaping holes in midfield.

Overall, the 2-0 win is all that matters, but there will be plenty for Arteta to dissect in the aftermath, but that was to be expected.

The Gunners got the win and a clean sheet, but several areas are in need of improvement, which will no doubt come in the new few weeks.
