Bayern Munich 1-0 Arsenal: Player ratings as Kimmich ends Gunners' UCL campaign
- Arsenal exited the Champions League after 1-0 defeat in Munich
- Joshua Kimmich scored only goal in UCL quarter-final second leg
- Gunners failed to lay a glove on their hosts
Arsenal exited the Champions League after they were beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich in the second leg of their quarter-final tie, with the Germans progressing 3-2 on aggregate.
It was a first-half of feeling one another out as both sides seemed more content without the ball. Bayern struggled to bypass Arsenal's press, but they always looked a threat when they broke the first line.
Noussair Mazraoui had an early effort deflected wide after he broke in behind following a swift transition from back to front, while Gabriel Martinelli spurned Arsenal's best opening of the first half, hitting his first-time effort straight at Manuel Neuer.
The hosts almost made the perfect start to the second period, with the woodwork twice coming to the Gunners' rescue as Leon Goretzka and Raphael Guerreiro came close.
Arsenal weathered that storm and grew into the bout again, with tension building inside the Allianz. It felt as if one moment would decide it, and Bayern landed the first blow. Joshua Kimmich emphatically headed home from Guerreiro's cross just after the hour.
Leroy Sane missed a great chance to immediately double the hosts' lead, with Mikel Arteta's side struggling to reassert themselves. Bayern managed the game superbly during the game's final act, and Arsenal bowed out of the competition with a whimper, failing to lay a glove on Die Roten after the restart.
Bayern Munich 1-0 Arsenal player ratings
Here are the Arsenal player ratings from their 1-0 defeat in Munich
Goalkeeper & Defenders
David Raya (GK) - 5/10 - Wasn't forced into too many saves, but looked a bit nervy under Bayern deliveries. Proactive at the restart.
Ben White (RB) - 5/10 - Rarely ventured into the final third, and had a tough assignment against the trick Guerreiro. Bayern smartly picked their moments as to when they exploited the space in behind Arsenal's right-back.
William Saliba (CB) - 7.5/10 - There was some panic in the Arsenal backline at various points in Munich, but Saliba was often a figure of calm.
Gabriel (CB) - 6/10 - A mixed outing for the Brazilian, who produced a couple of excellent box-defending sequences, but he never looked settled with the ball. Almost scored a comical own goal.
Takehiro Tomiyasu (LB) - 6.5/10 - Leroy Sane had his number early on, but Tomiyasu settled and generally performed well one-v-one against the electric German. Didn't offer too much in possession.
