After being sent off in the Premier League against Man City at the weekend, can Leandro Trossard play for Arsenal vs Bolton in the EFL Cup?

Arsenal finally have some respite, after a difficult week of away fixtures. They faced Tottenham Hotspur, Atalanta and Man City all away from home in the space of a week.

Now, they return to EFL Cup action for the first time this season. They drew Bolton Wanderers at home in the third round tie. So, Mikel Arteta will see this match as a chance to rotate his squad.

However, there are some signficant absentees which could impact his ability to rotate fully. With that being said, can Leandro Trossard play for Arsenal vs Bolton in the EFL Cup?

Leandro Trossard is suspended for Arsenal vs Bolton, so he cannot play in the EFL Cup third round. His suspension is a result of the two yellow cards he picked up against Man City in the Premier League.

Despite being separate competitions, it is the EFL Cup which Leandro Trossard will serve his suspension in. So, he will miss the Bolton match and then be available for the weekend's Premier League fixture against Leicester City.

In many ways, Leandro Trossard serving his suspension in the EFL Cup is of benefit to Arsenal. After all, Mikel Arteta would prefer Trossard to miss EFL Cup action than Premier League action.

With no disrespect to the opposition, Arsenal are the favourites to win this match with ease. Bolton did provide some cagey affairs against Arsenal during their Premier League days but now, it must be said, they are a shadow of their former selves.

Leandro Trossard's loss could be another player's gain. Indeed, Raheem Sterling is now in contention to start his first match for Arsenal. He could play in a front three alongside Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

Raheem Sterling did feature for Arsenal in the North London Derby two weekends ago. However, he is yet to start an Arsenal match. This could be a great platform for Sterling to stake a claim in the starting lineup.

With that being said, it also wouldn't be too much of a surprise to see Bukayo Saka involved in the starting lineup. He came off against Man City to facilitate the Trossard red card, so he is fresher than he usually is for Arsenal.

Regardless, the good news for Mikel Arteta is that there are options in the attack, even with Leandro Trossard being suspended.
