Ah, the infamous "Here We Go" from Fabrizio Romano. It's become a trademark statement in the football world over the last few years. Essentially, those three words confirm a transfer is going ahead. For Arsenal fans, it has mostly been kind to them over the last few seasons, particularly during the title charge era. However, today, it's got bad consequences for them, which benefit Man United.
“Here we go” Fabrizio Romano confirms Arsenal star will join Man United
According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal youngster Chido Obi-Martin will join Man United. The teenager had a knack for scoring goals in the Arsenal academy, but he's now accepted Man United's proposal so he is signing his first professional contract there, not Arsenal. It's believed he even turned down higher offers from other clubs to join Man United.
So, Arsenal are missing out on a goal-scorer with an incredibly high ceiling. Mikel Arteta and Edu can now cross their fingers that it doesn't come back to bite their back-sides. They have lost key players at a young age before, only to regret the decision. Serge Gnabry is the glaringly obvious example in recent history.
What further rubs salt into the wounds for Arsenal fans is that it was Ruud van Nistelrooy who was key to the deal getting over the line. The Man United legend who had a specific rivalry with Arsenal fans (we all remember the famous Martin Keown taunt, or am I just getting old?), has recently returned to Man United as their assistant manager.
Ruud van Nistelrooy provided Chido Obi-Martin with a long-term development plan and project. For a young player, it is easy to be convinced, especially when a club pays so much attention to detail.
Arsenal fans should definitely be annoyed. It's never nice losing a promising academy player, but this situation feels worse due to Man United being the beneficiary. That said, Arsenal must move on, learn from their mistakes and focus on their current crop of young players.
Do you think Chido Obi-Martin will be a hit or miss for Man United?
