We are now into the final few days of the summer transfer window. So far, Arsenal can be happy with their business, they have made the necessary changes, with key players such as Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino (expected) both joining Arsenal this summer.
Arsenal have also addressed the future of players who might not fit the bill. As per a new update from Fabrizio Romano, one more Arsenal player could leave this week.
Fabrizio Romano confirms out-of-favour Arsenal star will leave this week
According to Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter), Fabio Vieira will leave Arsenal to join Porto on loan. It is believed that all documents are signed and the loan move is sealed. Fabio Vieira will travel for loan tests today (Tuesday).
As per the agreement between Arsenal and Porto, there is no option for Porto to buy. This works in Arsenal's favour, since it leaves them in control of Vieira's future, should he shine on loan in Portugal.
Fabio Vieira has been on the cusp of first-team football for many seasons now but unfortunately, he hasn't made it under Mikel Arteta. The Portugal international has had a few moments of brilliance but he cannot stake a consistent claim in the Arsenal starting eleven.
Therefore, a loan to his home country will do Vieira the world of good. He is comfortable with the Portuguese domestic playing style, so he can continue to hone his craft before a decision is made on his Arsenal future.
Fabio Vieira's current deal at Arsenal expires in 2027. Therefore, there is time for Mikel Arteta to ponder his Arsenal future. There could certainly be a place for Vieira in the starting eleven next season depending on how well his loan move goes. The only thing in Vieira's control is his performance for Porto on loan, so he must now control the controllable.
Hopefully, it is not too little too late. Mikel Arteta has given Fabio Vieira multiple opportunities to prove himself. Therefore, a loan move should be the final catalyst to put him on the right trajectory.
Do you think Arsenal are right to loan out Fabio Vieira?
