Gabriel Jesus update: Groin injury not believed to be serious
- Gabriel Jesus missed Arsenal's victory over Aston Villa with groin injury
- Mikel Arteta confirmed striker will undergo MRI
- Striker's injury not thought to be serious
Gabriel Jesus will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his groin injury, but there's belief the Brazilian forward has not sustained a major issue.
Jesus has had his fair share of injury woes since he joined the club from Manchester City in the summer of 2022. After a blistering start to his career in north London, the striker picked up a knee injury at the Qatari World Cup which kept him out for three months.
Since then, Jesus has struggled to find his most potent form and he's endured several more injury setbacks along the way.
And while Mikel Arteta spoke about the Brazilian arriving with a "different energy" amid an impressive pre-season, it hasn't taken Jesus long to suffer his first injury of the 2024/25 campaign. It was reported on Saturday morning that the City striker had not travelled to Villa Park with the rest of the squad for Arsenal's big early-season encounter with Aston Villa.

A groin injury kept Jesus out at the weekend, with Arteta confirming that the 27-year-old will undergo an MRI after sustaining the issue in training on Thursday.
"Just at the end [of training] he felt something in his groin," the Spaniard said about Jesus' injury after the Gunners' 2-0 win in the West Midlands.
"We’ll need to assess him. We need to have an MRI scan to see, but he wasn’t available for the game. We have to see [how long he will be out]. Probably tomorrow or Monday we’ll have the results to see if it’s a matter of days or weeks. We don’t know," he added.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Sunday that the initial examinations suggest Jesus has avoided a major issue. More tests are set to follow, but the striker is not expected to miss a substantial period of time.
Up next for Arsenal is home game against Brighton on Saturday afternoon, with the Seagulls matching the Gunners' 100% start to the season. Jesus may well be fit for the weekend's game, but the September international break means that the Brighton clash could be the only one he misses if he hasn't recovered in time.
