Ah, that famous "Here We Go". It's a phrase that has both blessed and haunted Arsenal this summer transfer window. However, Fabrizio Romano has applied that seal of approval once again, but this time it will make Arsenal fans incredibly excited. Their long-awaited transfer for Mikel Merino is set to be completed now.
Mikel Merino won the EURO 2024 with Spain this summer and really caught the eye. The midfielder, who ages at 28-years-old, is playing at the peak of his powers, and he is one of the best midfielders in La Liga currently. However, he appears to have played his final game for Real Sociedad.
So, Fabrizio Romano has applied the infamous "Here We Go" label to the transfer, but what are the conditions of the deal which Arsenal fans must know about?

According to Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter), there is now a verbal agreement in place for Arsenal to sign Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad. The transfer fee which Arsenal will now pay is €32m plus €5m add-ons, those add-ons believed to be favourable. Furthermore, Mikel Merino will sign a deal at the Emirates Stadium until 2028, so a four-year contract.
Mikel Merino has received offers from multiple clubs, but it's suggested by Fabrizio Romano that he only ever wanted Arsenal. In fact, the transfer saga has stretched out over a long period but now it seems that Arsenal finally have their man. An announcement will be made in due course but Arsenal fans can now rest assured that a deal is on the verge of completion.
Mikel Merino is believed to plug that "Granit Xhaka gap" after the Swiss midfielder left Arsenal in the summer of 2023. He could walk straight into the first team, with Mikel Arteta tipped to favour Merino over Thomas Partey.
Assuming the deal for Mikel Merino makes it over the line without any hiccups, he would be Arsenal's fourth addition of the 2024 summer transfer window. They have already signed David Raya, Tommy Setford and Riccardo Calafiori.
In truth, Arsenal did not need to make any "statement signings" but Mikel Merino presented a golden opportunity in the transfer market which Mikel Arteta certainly could not pass up. He will be a solid addition to the team and improve Arsenal's midfield options.
