Arsenal will likely need to be playing catch-up in the Premier League title race by the time they face Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The two great former rivals have drifted in alternate directions as of late, with Arsenal retaining their status as title challengers while United are on track to endure their worst Premier League season ever having showed such promise under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23.

The Red Devils are a sorry outfit, with their recent 4-0 thrashing at Crystal Palace being just the latest of several humiliations suffered during Ten Hag's two-year reign. While there have been mitigating factors this term, it appears as if the writing is on the wall for the Dutch coach.

Arsenal, however, rarely enjoy their visits to the Theatre of Dreams. Victories at Old Trafford are collector's items, with the Gunners last tasting success in Manchester four years ago when stadiums were empty.

Mikel Arteta's title hopefuls maintained their impressive momentum with a convincing 3-0 victory over an in-form Bournemouth last weekend. Arsenal have now won four on the bounce, and they'll be hoping Fulham can pull off a mini-miracle against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.

Here's our preview of Sunday's game at Old Trafford.

Man Utd team news

It's been an awful season on the injury front for United, and their current situation is dire.

On a positive note, Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez have both returned to training ahead of Sunday's game, with Bruno Fernandes also likely to be available having missed the first game of his club career through injury at Palace.

The hosts will be without Raphael Varane, Willy Kambwala, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, and Tyrell Malacia this weekend. Scott McTominay is also a doubt. Anthony Martial, who's missed the entirety of 2024 thus far, could return to the matchday squad.

Arsenal are healthy.

There are no fitness concerns, it's just a matter of whether Arteta decides to include Jurrien Timber in the matchday squad. The Spaniard could name an unchanged team for the fourth game running.

Man Utd vs Arsenal score prediction

This is going to go one of two ways.

United are bad, really bad. They're so tactically inept it's untrue and Arsenal, so masterfully structured, should be able to create chances at will. But, this is a weird time of year where odd things happen. The pressure on Arsenal, especially if City beat Fulham, will be huge.

The Gunners are yet to wilt, but this might be the time. United have plenty to prove in the wake of their battering at Palace, and they'll be wanting to apologise to the Old Trafford faithful with a big performance against their old rivals on Sunday.

I fear that United could do something they have no right doing this weekend, and that's getting a result against a far superior team. Either that or the visitors blitz the Red Devils amid a 5-0 win. There's no in between.

Prediction: Man Utd 2-2 Arsenal
