A surprising Arsenal transfer target has emerged from West Ham, with Mikel Arteta likely to compete with Chelsea for his signature.

If you cast your mind back to the summer transfer window or indeed, earlier in the season when West Ham knocked Arsenal out of the EFL Cup, you will remember the name Mohammed Kudus. In the summer, Mikel Arteta was interested in signing him but instead, he signed for West Ham and the rest, as they say, is history. Since then, he's made a big impact in London, even scoring against Arsenal.

They say that opportunities are like trains, in that neither of them come twice. However, Arsenal could defy that old cliche by having ANOTHER opportunity to sign Mohammed Kudus, if today's Arsenal transfer news is anything to go by.

According to Fichajes, Arsenal are interested in signing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United this summer. However, guess which London side they will face competition from - That's right, Chelsea.

I must admit, this one does seem like a weird transfer story, since Kudus only signed for West Ham a few months back. The 23-year-old is also under contract at the London Stadium until 2028, with David Moyes having no real reason to sell him.

Still, stranger things have happened in this sport and Arsenal are clearly big fans of Kudus and the way he plays. As a versatile midfielder who can either play centrally or on the wing, it makes sense that Mikel Arteta would target him again, should the opportunity arise.

While it remains early days, it seems that the objective for the Gunners in the summer transfer window is to sign a new midfielder. Just this week, Arsenal were linked with a move for Amadou Onana of Everton, who would bring a lot of benefits to the club. Regardless of your preferred signing, I think Arsenal fans can collectively agree that it's good to see the club keeping their options open.
