A long-term Arsenal transfer target, Nico Williams, has today dealt Mikel Arteta a transfer blow. Is it time to look elsewhere now?

Arsenal have a lot of quality in their attack, despite the lack of investment compared to other positions. Most notably, they have one of the best right-wingers in the world in Bukayo Saka.

On the left, they have both Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli. Trossard is an exceptional game-changer, but question marks remain about him starting. Martinelli, on the other hand, is beginning to find some nice form.

Without a doubt, bringing in a world-class left-winger would elevate Arsenal's attack. Perhaps it could benefit Arsenal more than signing a striker, since Leandro Trossard is also capable of playing through the middle.

However, it is unlikely to be Nico Williams who comes in.

According to AS, Nico Williams is very happy at Athletic Bilbao. Despite interest from Arsenal and Barcelona in the summer transfer window, he stayed at Bilbao and doesn't regret his decision.

In his own words (translated from Spanish to English), Nico Williams said: "I am happy in Bilbao, I have decided to stay here. It is incredible to see the atmosphere that was created after the game against AZ."

Nico Williams had a brilliant summer at EURO 2024. He was a key figure in the Spain side who won, even beating England in the final. So, understandably, the interest in Spain's star player only increased.

For Nico Williams to stick with Athletic Bilbao, despite interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world, says a lot about his loyalty. The side sits sixth in La Liga heading into the October international break.

Look, nobody can deny that Nico Williams would improve Arsenal, especially if he comes in January. However, the transfer was unlikely even in the summer, let alone now. Arsenal fans would benefit most from not getting their hopes up.
