Report: Martin Zubimendi rules out Arsenal transfer this summer
- Martin Zubimendi has caught the eye of Europe's elite, with Arsenal interested
- Player is happy at Real Sociedad
- Zubimendi prefers to stay in Spain than move overseas this summer
Arsenal are unlikely to sign Martin Zubimendi this summer, with the Real Sociedad midfielder keen on remaining in Spain, according to reports.
The Gunners have a long-standing interest in Zubimendi and are poised to freshen up their midfield engine room ahead of a huge 2024/25 campaign. Mikel Arteta's side need to bridge the gap between themselves and Manchester City, with midfield emerging as a distinct area of need this summer.
Thomas Partey could be moved on in order to facilitate the arrival of a midfield star. Arsenal have already been linked with the likes of Zubimendi, as well as Bruno Guimaraes and Douglas Luiz. They'd have to pay a pretty penny to acquire of the Premier League stars, but a move for Zubimendi also appears unlikely.
Martin Zubimendi rules out Arsenal transfer this summer
Spanish media outlet Sport reports that the Sociedad midfielder has ruled out a move to Arsenal this summer because he wants to continue in La Liga.
After returning to the Champions League for the 2023/24 season, Sociedad endured a tough campaign and finished sixth in La Liga. Zubimendi, though, enjoyed a fine season at the base of Imanol Alguacil's midfield and remains on the transfer lists of Europe's finest. Barcelona and Real Madrid are supposedly both keen on striking a deal for the 25-year-old.
And while interest from Spain's two supreme forces is set to manifest, Zubimendi is unlikely to force a move away. He's very content in San Sebastian.
"I’m happy at Real Sociedad, it’s my home. I can’t say I will be here for the rest of my career, because maybe in the future Real Sociedad won’t want me to continue here," the midfielder said in April
"I'm not bothered about those rumours," he added, discussing the links about a move away.
If Zubimendi is reluctant to depart, Arsenal are unlikely to haggle Sociedad for his signature. There are an array of alternatives for the club to consider. Amadou Onana and Joao Neves have also been linked with moves to north London, with the Gunners poised to make a big midfield splash this summer.
