A report by talkSPORT has revealed that Newcastle will consider cashing in on Callum Wilson this summer. West Ham and clubs in Saudi Arabia are said to be interested.

Wilson has had an impressive Premier League career with Bournemouth and Newcastle having scored 88 goals in 221 appearances. During his time on Tyneside, he has established himself as a quality top division centre forward.

With a summer exit from Newcastle possible for Wilson and Arsenal potentially still looking for a striker, could the Gunners explore a move for him?

Arsenal are reported to be sticking with Kai Havertz at centre-forward for this season and have put their search for a striker to one side - for now.

However, with the possibility of either Gabriel Jesus or Eddie Nketiah, or perhaps both, leaving the club, it would be wise for a new striker to be brought in if squad depth is to be maintained. Callum Wilson could be the man for that.

Wilson has had a good spell with Newcastle, scoring 48 goals in 108 appearances for the club, and has developed into a Premier League level striker.

His contract with Newcastle is set to expire next summer so if he is to leave the Magpies, it would most certainly be at a discounted price. This would mean Arsenal would not have to splash the cash in order to bring a new striker to the club.

Wilson's Premier League experience and record shows that he would be a good fit in this Gunners squad even if it was not necessarily as a starter. He could be the striker Mikel Arteta has needed to be able to call upon when the team is in desperate search of a goal.

Arteta may be slightly put off by Wilson's shaky injury record but when fit, he has the quality to be part of a top team.

Arsenal are likely to prioritise a move for a big name striker next summer so Callum Wilson could come in for this season and cover the centre forward role along with Kai Havertz and whoever is left out of Jesus and Nketiah.

It is unlikely the Gunners will pursue Wilson but there would certainly be no harm in the club at least exploring a potential move this summer. A discounted deal for a decent Premier League striker seems an ideal move for the club.
