Arsenal secured a mammoth victory in Sunday's North London Derby, with a second-half Gabriel header proving the difference in N17.

Arsenal's expected absences were made official with the Gunners entering the derby in the absence of captain Martin Odegaard and new signing Riccardo Calafiori. The Gunners sought to mitigate the early momentum built up by their aggressive hosts, and Mikel Arteta's side did have some success in taming a fervent Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There were chances at both ends in a mightily competitive first half laden with bookings, the majority of which seemed mightily harsh. Dominic Solanke was guilty of dallying in front of goal after a Ben White giveaway, while Gabriel Martinelli should've been more emphatic when he got in behind the Tottenham defence.

It was all to play for as the teams re-emerged for a pivotal second half, with Arsenal appearing as if they were flagging before Gabriel leapt highest from a Bukayo Saka corner to head the depleted visitors into the lead.

While the opening goal often means little in this fixture, Arsenal did an excellent job of managing the contest and keeping their north London rivals at bay. This was a big-boy performance ahead of a huge week with trips to Atalanta and Manchester City on the horizon.

Here are the player ratings from Sunday's North London Derby.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - 6/10 - Made a couple of smart early saves, but a stout defensive performance meant Raya wasn't tested too much for the final hour of the contest.

Ben White (RB) - 5/10 - Just wasn't at the races in this one. Far too many unforced errors, and was beaten on several occasions in the opening period.

William Saliba (CB) - 8.5/10 - Extinguished a few fires early on when Arsenal gave it away deep in their territory. Generally dominated the duel with Solanke.

Gabriel (CB) - 9/10 - After defending the front post expertly, Gabriel delivered the key moment from a set-piece. This was a monster performance.

Jurrien Timber (LB) - 8.5/10 - Timber's had to shake off some rust at the start of the new season, but this was Timber at his stout best in a supposedly unfamiliar role. So, so good one-on-one, and he was thrust into some difficult situations.
