Mikel Arteta might need to tog out himself.

Sparks will no doubt fly across the capital this weekend as Arsenal and Tottenham are going head-to-head in another fiery North London Derby.

The Gunners have had the better of recent NLD clashes, earning four out of six points last term and completing a Derby Double the previous year. More success here would grant them a historic third consecutive win on their rivals’ ground (for the first time since 1988) and, after a disappointing draw with Brighton, will do much to get their title aspirations back on track.

However, freakish midfield woes could hurt the Arsenal cause and render us vulnerable in front of a raucous home support, whose baying-for-blood zeal could inspire Postecoglou’s men and endanger our unbeaten domestic start.

Tottenham vs Arsenal: 3 key battles to watch out for on Derby Day

Derby Day rarely lacks in excitement, and here are three mouth-watering battles that may decide its outcome.

1. Jurrien Timber vs Pedro Porro

Amongst all the Gunners’ uncertainties, it is almost guaranteed that Jurrien Timber will have his work cut out on Sunday – and there is no better man for the job.

The Dutchman started our last two matches and so he will likely be tasked with holding down the left flank again here. His technical security – combined with lithe movement – should prove invaluable against a high-pressing Sp*rs attack and help Arsenal to gain some control, while his sharp defensive instincts can form a worthy antidote to their quick transitions.

These tools are of the utmost importance as, in Pedro Porro, Timber will be facing a hugely influential opponent. The birthday boy is a major offensive threat, primarily via his crossing from the right half-space and runs in behind the defence, and 10 goal contributions last campaign (just in the Premier League) only underline his role in our rivals’ offensive efforts.

Their battle looks evenly matched on paper, but an excellent clean-sheet record on the road (eight from ten in 2024) means Timber could have the edge.
