The two Arsenal players with contracts expiring in summer 2025
By Kian Long
Arsenal have become much better at addressing their looming contract expirations in recent years, particularly when it comes to key players. In the past, they have let the contracts of key players run down, including Alexis Sanchez, so they were unable to pick up a big transfer fee as compensation.
With Mikel Arteta and Edu at the helm, Arsenal operate in a much more organised manner than before. It also helps the cause that players want to stay to take part in the exciting project ahead. Hopefully, this will continue into the 2024/25 campaign.
As things stand, there are two Arsenal players with contracts expiring in the summer of 2025. Here are the two Arsenal players with looming contract expirations...
The two Arsenal players with contracts expiring in summer 2025
1. Jorginho
Jorginho last signed a contract extension for Arsenal in May of 2024. However, the deal was simply described as a short-term deal from Arsenal. Jorginho signed a one-year contract extension at the time, meaning he would remain a contracted Arsenal player until 2025 at least.
Jorginho has been with Arsenal since 2023. He was signed midway through their turbulent 2022/23 season, to provide backup to the likes of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey. However, as time elapsed, Jorginho soon became a respected first-team figure and to this day, he still frequents the first-team when he is fit.
Last season in 2023/24, Jorginho played a key role for Arsenal. He was involved in some great Arsenal matches and his composure was noted by the Arsenal higher-ups, hence his offer for a contract extension. He is 32 years old and he will be 33 when his current deal comes to an end.
2. Thomas Partey
Thomas Partey has been with Arsenal since 2020 and he was one of Mikel Arteta's first signings. Partey has gone through a lot during his time with Arsenal but without a doubt, he was a founding member of their title charge in 2022/23. He partnered Granit Xhaka in a midfield pivot which was unfortunate not to win the title.
In 2023/24, Thomas Partey played a more reserved role. Unfortunately, his season was overshadowed by injuries and he struggled to put together a consistent run of fixtures.
Thomas Partey has never signed a contract extension with Arsenal. In fact, his current deal which expires in 2025 is the same contract he signed in 2020 when he joined. So, as things stand, Partey could complete the conditions of his contract and it remains to be seen whether he will be offered a new deal by the club.
Do you think Arsenal should tie Jorginho and Thomas Partey down to new contracts?
