The 2024/25 Premier League season is edging closer and Arsenal are set to enjoy the final stage of their pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign.

It's been a unique summer for Mikel Arteta and the vast majority of managers across Europe given the recent and ongoing slate of international action. Arteta had 14 players away at Euro 2024 and the Copa America which forced the club into a slightly different pre-season schedule.

There was no trip to adidas HQ out in Germany, but the Gunners have spent a couple of weeks out in the States with the majority of Arteta's international stars taking to the field across the pond.

A 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in Philadelphia on Wednesday evening signalled the tour's end, and here's a reminder of what the club has planned before the start of the new season.

Arteta's squad are flying back to the UK on Thursday having suffered defeat to the Reds. Arsenal's tour started with a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth and a 2-1 victory over Manchester United.

The four squad members that were involved in the Euro 2024 final - David Raya, Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice, and Bukayo Saka - will then make their returns to London Colney over the weekend ahead of Arsenal's first Emirates friendly of the summer against Granit Xhaka's Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday evening.

New arrival Riccardo Calafiori is expected to make his unofficial debut in that fixture, and who knows, there may be room for Mikel Merino as well!

Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen will be an excellent test for the Gunners, who wrap up their pre-season the Sunday before their Premier League opener against Wolves. Arsenal meet Alexandre Lacazette's Lyon in the Emirates Cup on 11 August, although the former Gunner is currently away at the Olympics with Thierry Henry's France.

Given the levels Arsenal will have to reach next season to usurp Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table, Arteta will be desperate to have his late arrivals up to speed as soon as possible. Every game is crucial, and Arsenal can ill-afford an early slip-up on the opening day.
