- Isak said to be open to move to the Emirates
Arsenal are prioritising a move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak this summer, according to an exclusive report.
The Gunners opted against signing a #9 in the winter despite their profligate end to 2023, and the club's decision has so far been vindicated with Mikel Arteta emerging as a free-scoring machine after the mid-season break.
Arsenal's improved form in front of goal has thrust them to the top of the Premier League table heading into the run-in. A huge Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich also beckons.
Alexander Isak is Arsenal's top striker target this summer
Arsenal are expected to be busy this summer no matter how the season unfolds, and the addition ofa new striker is set to be a top priority.
The Gunners have already been linked with a whole host of names, including Victor Osimhen, Ivan Toney, Viktor Gyokeres, and Joshua Zirkzee.
Osimhen is the optimal target for many, with the Nigerian poised to leave Napoli at the end of the season.
And while Osimhen is reportedly on Arsenal's radar, Now Arsenal have exclusively reported that Newcastle's Isak has raced to the top of the club's summer wish list. The Swedish international is said to be open to a move to north London with Newcastle likely to miss out on Champions League football for next season.
Isak's contract on Tyneside runs until 2028, but there have been reports of Newcastle needing to sell in order to balance their books amid Financial Fair Play concerns.
The striker has battled injuries since moving to the Premier League but has been productive nonetheless. After recording 12 Premier League goal contributions from 22 games last season, Isak has scored 12 in 20 this term. His languid gait and graceful style has seen him draw comparisons to Arsenal icon Thierry Henry, with the striker particularly proficient when operating from the left inside channel - as Henry was.
Arsenal will have to pay a premium price to acquire the 24-year-old, who was on the club's radar during his Real Sociedad days.
