Arsenal have the chance to respond to Saturday's bleak disappointment in front of the Emirates faithful on Tuesday night as they take on Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

The Gunners are aiming to climb up the league phase table having amassed four points from their opening two games, with Mikel Arteta's side securing an impressive 2-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain last time out.

However, their current injury absences proved too much to bear at the weekend as they succumbed at Bournemouth after William Saliba saw red in the first half. Saliba is eligible to play on Tuesday, but he'll be suspended for Liverpool's visit on Sunday.

Here's the team Mikel Arteta could pick for Shakhtar's midweek visit.

David Raya (GK) - Like many of his teammates, Raya produced his poorest performance of the season at Bournemouth on Saturday. He'll be hoping for more stability and to play behind ten outfielders when Shakhtar come to town.

Ben White (RB) - White has some rust to shake off, and he could do with a sturdier outing before he takes on Luis Diaz on Sunday.

William Saliba (CB) - Saliba is available for Arsenal's upcoming Champions League duel and Arteta will make full use of him. I'm sure he'll remind us of his brilliance before he sits out at the weekend.

Gabriel (CB) - With Bukayo Saka potentially missing out again, Gabriel should retain the armband and lead the Gunners out as that glorious anthem belts out in north London.

Riccardo Calafiori (LB) - The Italian played a big role in Arsenal's victory over PSG on Matchday 2, and we should see a more exuberant Calafiori showing in midweek after performing a more monotonous role on Saturday.

Declan Rice (CM) - Thomas Partey's legs will be rested for Sunday, with this game being a good opportunity to drop Rice into the base of midfield. Rice was one of very few who departed the Vitality with their head held high at the weekend.

Mikel Merino (CM) - Merino's maiden Arsenal start did not go as planned, but he could've ended the contest with a goal and an assist. The Spaniard loves to be involved, and we should see him maraud through the left half-space in this one.

Ethan Nwaneri (CM) - I think this is more hope than projection. We all want Nwaneri to be included in Tuesday's XI after showing more glimmers late on against Bournemouth. The kid can help Arsenal regain their swagger down the right in the absence of Martin Odegaard and Saka.

Raheem Sterling (RW) - With Saka absent from training on Monday, it doesn't look like he'll play against Shakhtar. Sterling was harshly withdrawn 30 minutes in at the weekend, and Arteta might give him another chance to impress in midweek.

Kai Havertz (ST) - Will Arteta consider Gabriel Jesus after Havertz's inefficiency at the weekend? Unlikely. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if the German is preserved for Sunday.

Gabriel Martinelli (LW) - Let's just blame a hint of jet lag for his miss down on the south coast, with Martinelli spurning a big chance to give Arsenal the lead at Bournemouth. The Brazilian was otherwise spritely, and he could come back into the side on Tuesday.
