If Premier League fans opened their eyes, they'd see the real villain is not Arsenal

Game's gone.

That's a term you'll hear countless times if you're a fan of Premier League football. It seems to be heard a lot more these days, but that's because we're in an Arsenal echo chamber.

In hindsight, the game is always gone. There is always a threat to football, and right now, it's Arsenal.

Or so they say. They only say it because Arsenal play defensive football but, you know, it was never an issue when Sir Alex Ferguson said defence wins you titles, or when Pep Guardiola spent a fortune fixing Man City's defence.

The real threat to football is not Arsenal; it's those in power. It's the decision-makers, those who genuinely have a say in how teams play football.

The truth is that Arsenal championing defensive football shouldn't make other teams less attacking. If they did that, it would feed into Arsenal's strengths, and it would be absolutely nonsensical. If anything, Arsenal setting up defensively should encourage others to play more attacking.

Arsenal isn't the villain; the villain is PGMOL

On Saturday night, Arsenal conceded a penalty that was perhaps the softest penalty you'll see given all season. Ezri Konsa supposedly committed a foul by... being fouled himself.

In fact, let's stop using the word 'foul' - it serves no one. Nobody knows what a foul even is anymore, because they make it ludicrously hard to understand.

In what world would a player being dragged to the box, landing on top of the player who dragged them because of, I don't know, gravity, be a foul? How on earth could Ezri Konsa land anywhere else?

PGMOL have set an almighty precadent here. They essentially said that if you get dragged to the floor, you have committed a foul.

That's an incredible loophole for attackers to exploit now, isn't it? The answer is no. The loophole doesn't exist, because let's be honest, this rule will only apply to Arsenal.

We all know what happens next. PGMOL will release an apology, and say the wrong decision was made. The wool would be pulled over our eyes for some more time, until it happens again.

Fans don't want to be apologised to. We want change, genuine change.

Football authorities are bloodsucking leeches that drain any entertainment out of football. They have reduced football to merely a product, and stripped it of all the idiosyncrasies that made it unique.

Football was once played in halves; FIFA changed that. Football was once a contact sport; the Premier League changed that. Football was once an even playing field that allowed for rags-to-riches stories; FFP changed that.

We need to stop looking at individual teams for ruining football, it serves nobody. Individual teams are not to blame for sucking the soul of this sport; the governing bodies that run the sport are to blame.
