Arsenal's Champions League campaign resumes on Tuesday night as they travel to PSV Eindhoven for the first leg of their round of 16 tie.

The Gunners made light work of the all-new league phase, winning four on the bounce to finish third in the table, to qualify for the last 16 automatically. PSV had to bypass Juventus in the play-offs to advance, and Peter Bosz's side required extra time having succumbed 2-1 in Turin.

The Eredivisie holders eventually claimed a 3-1 win at the Philips Stadion to advance into the knockout stages of this competition for the second season running.

Arsenal enter the contest off the back of a free weekend after their early FA Cup elimination, and Mikel Arteta's side have been forced to slog through their recent outings. The Gunners are struggling in the absence of their goalscorers, and have failed to score in back-to-back games.

With their Premier League title hopes slimming by the week, the Champions League may well be the club's best hope of claiming silverware this term. Although they have a very tough route to Munich.

Here's our preview of PSV Eindhoven vs Arsenal in the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday night.

PSV Eindhoven team news

Arsenal fans will be pleased to hear that free agent signing - and former Gunner - Lucas Perez is ineligible to compete during the knockout stages of the Champions League. USMNT stars Malik Tillman and Ricardo Pepi are also out injured for the hosts.

A bone bruise could keep left-back Mauro Junior out but PSV do have Man Utd loanee Tyrell Malacia available in reserve.

Luuk de Jong will lead PSV's line, but winger Noa Lang is the man Arsenal must be wary of on Tuesday night. Ivan Perisic also knows how the produce in the clutch.

Predicted PSV lineup vs Arsenal: Benitez; Ledezma, Flamingo, Boscagli, Malacia; Veerman, Schouten; Bakayoko, Saibari, Lang; De Jong.

Arsenal team news

Arteta does have Myles Lewis-Skelly available after he served a domestic suspension at Nottingham Forest last week. The boss could prefer the teenager's security over the chaos of Riccardo Calafiori, but Arsenal do require the attacking threat supplied by the Italian.

There are no changes on the injury front. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli will miss both legs against the Dutch champions, while Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all out for the season.

Mikel Merino hasn't done all that much since his brace at Leicester, so there could be some tinkering to the frontline.

Predicted Arsenal lineup vs PSV: Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Calafiori; Partey, Rice, Odegaard; Nwaneri, Trossard, Sterling.

PSV Eindhoven vs Arsenal score prediction

The avoidance of defeat is key for Arsenal here. In their current situation, I wouldn't back them to chase the game at home next week.

The Philips Stadion is not an easy place to visit, with PSV refusing to taste defeat on home soil in the Eredivisie since late 2022. Arsenal have also failed to win on their previous two trips to Eindhoven - although Arteta did rotate heavily for both games. I suspect the hosts will take their chances on Tuesday and aim to capitalise on the visitors' flat-lining attack.

Bosz's teams are aggressive enough as it is, and we could see PSV come out of the blocks firing here. Arsenal may get caught cold, but I think the Gunners dig deep and find something from within - perhaps a set-piece - to ensure the scores are at least all square heading into the return leg.

Prediction: PSV Eindhoven 1-1 Arsenal
