Arsenal finished off the job against Real Madrid with a 2-1 win in the Champions League quarter finals to advance to the semi-finals.

Job done.

Arsenal finished the job off with aplomb, beating Real Madrid 2-1 in the second leg of its Champions League quarter-final match to advance to face PSG in the semi-finals.

It was a solid enough performance from the Gunners as Bukayo Saka had his first half penalty saved, while Kylian Mbappe's first half goal was ruled out for offside.

But the Gunners kept the focus narrow, and it was Saka who broke the deadlock in the second half after a neat pass from Mikel Merino that played him in, and Bukayo delicately lifted his shot over the on-rushing Thibaut Courtois to give Arsenal the lead on the night and end the tie as a contest.

But a minute later, William Saliba was caught dwelling on the ball by Vinicius Junior who then scored into an open net to give the game life. However, the Gunners kept their heads and in injury time, Gabriel Martinelli was sent through by Merino and the Brazilian drove into the Madrid box and slotted home to give Arsenal a well-deserved lead.

But to bounce back in the manner that he did and score the goal to end the tie as a contest, a delightfully dinked effort, showed the mental fortitude our star man has.

It was an uneven performance, but after his penalty miss he could have shrunk - he didn't.
