Thomas Partey (CM) - 7.5/10 - He wasn't the most tidy in possession and took a needless and costly booking set to rule him out of the semi-final first leg, but Partey succeeded in the unfashionable parts of his job. Things like blocking passing lanes, tackling well and bossing physical duels. This was the kind of rugged, no-frills performance that made Partey so valuable for Atletico Madrid on tough European nights.

Declan Rice (CM) - 8/10 - There was no free-kick magic this time, but Rice still managed to underline his importance. He's key to Arsenal's success because of an engine that is never found lacking. His running power and talent as a throwback, box-to-box midfielder summed up the ultimate difference in this tie: Arsenal were simply stronger and quicker than the holders.

Martin Odegaard (AM) - 6/10 - Odegaard never really made Los Blancos regret the wonderkid that got away. He was neat and tidy, but Arsenal's chief string-puller couldn't find the incisive passes in the final third. The Gunners are going to need more from Odegaard in the last four.

It was only thanks to industry and individual quality that Arsenal's attackers still profited even without a steady source of supply.
