Manchester United legend Roy Keane questioned Arsenal's mentality in their opening day victory at Old Trafford.

The ex-Red Devils captain felt it was a worry the Gunners were happy to sit on a 1-0 lead and soak up pressure from his former side and theorised if that approach was why they drew so many games last season.

Comparing Arsenal's more relaxed mentality to the more fearsome of Liverpool and Manchester City, Keane claimed adapting to a similar approach to their title rivals would be the challenge for Mikel Arteta's side.

Speaking on Sky Sports following the game, Keane said: "Even Arsenal getting the one goal. I think that's a worry when I see what Arsenal are doing.

"You wonder why Arsenal are just coming up short because they're still happy enough to kind of sit in at 1-0. Then you go is that the reason you drew so many games last year.

"Compare them to a Man City or Liverpool. They're always thinking let's go and get the second goal. Even on a bad day with Liverpool, you think they'd score two or three goals.

"So that's the challenge for Arsenal, but for the first day of the season, obviously their sharpness will improve. Saka, Odegaard, Rice, I think there's a lot more to come from them, but of course you take a win on the first day of the season and a clean sheet."

While Keane has gained a reputation for his pessimistic punditry, his opinion on the Gunners' performance at Old Trafford is completely valid. Arsenal could have looked to kill the game off with that second goal, but instead looked happy to soak up United's pressure and attack mainly through breaks.

That is something that cost the Gunners last season, with their inability to play under pressure and 14 draws from 38 games being a key factor in their failure to win the Premier League. Arteta and his side will know they have to work on this if they are to avoid a similar outcome to last season.

As Keane said, Arsenal can be forgiven for it being the first game of the season and they will just be happy to have taken three points from a tough opening match. However, they will need to improve on this and start being braver by looking to take control and kill off games if they want to continue competing with the sides that already do so.
