Should Arsenal make move for attacking upgrades this summer?

Arsenal's attacking forces were decimated this season, making it all the more important to strengthen the squad.

The need for Arsenal to strengthen out wide this summer has been made perfectly clear.

As Arsenal saw the Premier League title slip away from its grasp due to a host of injuries to the club's attacking players, it made the summer transfer business crystal clear.

With Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus done for the year, Bukayo Saka out for over two months and Gabriel Martinelli for over a month, manager Mikel Arteta had to get creative to try and solve the attacking issues the club was facing.

He called it an "emergency situation" having to deploy Mikel Merino up top, and while the Spaniard has scored twice in his last three games in all competitions, that isn't a sustainable way to live in the football world.

We know the need for a proper striker to come to the club this summer, with Alexander Isak being the name on everyone's lips, but getting Newcastle to sell, particularly when Champions League football is on the cards for Eddie Howe's team looks like a bridge too far.

But there is another position that needs to be strengthened.

Arsenal need to upgrade winger position

We saw what Arteta was down to when Saka and Martinelli were both injured, and there isn't too much top quality behind them (maybe Ethan Nwaneri), and it is here where the Gunners need to be on the lookout for some weapons.

For former football scout Mick Brown, who spoke with Football Insiders, the Gunners are keeping tabs on Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane, who could be available for free in the summer.

“Since his move to Germany I haven’t heard too much about him, but from what I have seen, he still has that game-changing ability," Brown said. "I don’t think Arsenal will be the only club interested if he’s available for free. It’s been a major blow for them this season, losing Saka and Martinelli, and they need a player who can come in and rotate with the two of them. So Arsenal’s scouts will have been watching him closely at Bayern and they’ll be keeping a close eye on his contract situation so they can make a move if he leaves for free.”

While Sane has just nine goals and four assists in 35 games in all competitions, as Brown states, he's available for free and that could appeal to Arteta, who worked with Sane while at Manchester City.

Arsenal is in desperate need of not only starting-caliber players but rotational players, and in Sane, if he's available for free, should absolutely be a move the Gunners make.
