Thierry Henry makes his love for Arsenal no secret. As the best Arsenal player ever, that love is reciprocated his way by the fanbase. Speaking like a true fan, he has demanded that every Arsenal player plays into Mikel Arteta's 'feel fire' rally before the Man City game this weekend.
Despite there still being time in the title race, time is running out. Arsenal have done themselves no favours, and many see this weekend's game as the last opportunity for Arsenal to cement the Premier League title. If they lose, the keys to the Premier League are in Man City's hands.
Thierry Henry appeared on CBS Sports last night, after Arsenal drew to Sporting to secure their place in the Champions League semi-finals for the second season in a row. In his segment, the Arsenal legend rallied the Arsenal players to go out there and take what's rightfully theirs: the Premier League title.
Thierry Henry rallies up the Arsenal players
In his own words, Thierry Henry said "I heard fire. I wanna see that fire there [against Man City. I believe Mikel, yes, but show it."
When asked about how Arsenal should approach the game against Man City, Henry said "I hope not like tonight [against Sporting], or against Bournemouth or Brighton away or Mansfield or everything that I've seen this season. [That performance would not be enough against] the Man City I've seen recently."
"This year, I do believe [Arsenal] can win the league. This is the biggest chance in your life to prove to yourself as a team that we can."
Henry is spot on when addressing what it takes to beat Man City
Competing against Man City, one of the best teams to ever play in the Premier League, is about much more than just playing tactically sound football. You need to be up there with them mentally. You cannot approach a game against them thinking you've already lost... Otherwise, you will.
For too long, Arsenal have rolled over against the team they're competing against. When it matters most, Arsenal give the least. If it's ever going to change, it needs to change now.
As Henry pointed out, there is no better time than now. The only better time to win the Premier League would have been to win it in 2023, then 2024, then 2025. Now it's 2026, and there are no more excuses.
Let's say it how it is: Being an Arsenal fan in 2026 will be frankly embarrassing if no trophies are won. While some might say it's just a game, I dread talking to my friends about football in April, because Arsenal are utterly humiliating.
But that should be the 'fire' that Arsenal need. If fans are embarrassed, players should be mortified. However, as Henry eluded to, you control your own fate in this game. Public perception is in the Arsenal players' hands, nobody else.
