Arsenal legend Thierry Henry believes David Raya should be in the conversation for Arsenal's player of the season.
Arsenal are currently alive in all four competitions - they currently sit in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and the Champions League, the final of the Carabao Cup and at the top of the Premier League table.
To say that things are looking good for Arsenal going into the busiest time of the season would be an understatement.
Not many people realise it, but none of this would happen without the services of David Raya, who has not just been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League, he has a fair shout to be one of the best in the world.
Henry, while discussing Arsenal's success so far this season, mentioned Raya's heroics, after the Spaniard made some ridiculous saves to keep Arsenal ticking in the Champions League.
Thierry Henry's Arsenal player of the season candidate makes perfect sense
He said: "This guy should be in contention to be player of the season because what he does for Arsenal every single time.
“It’s very difficult sometimes to see what a goalkeeper does but he cannot make you win the game.
‘He can make you hope that you’re not losing it by making saves but he does that two to three times every single game. It’s just outstanding.”
Fans definitely remember what everyone's opinion about Raya truly was at the time of his signature. He was signed while Aaron Ramsdale was performing well for Arsenal, and it was surprising to see Mikel Arteta go for him.
However, some costly mistakes by the Englishman made Arteta sign Raya, who, in his first season, was not very good. At least to start it.
He made key errors in distribution and positioning, and was struggling to save penalties. However, everyone saw the potential, and everyone is seeing why Arteta was so hell-bent on signing the Spanish goalkeeper in the first place.
Raya does not get tested loads like some of the other goalkeepers in the sport because of Arsenal's brilliant defense, but each time he is tested, he is able to pull one ridiculous save after the other out of the bag.
He has done it so many times over the course of the season that fans have started seeing it as the norm, which, to be fair, it has become.
Every world class team has to have a world class goalkeeper, and Raya is definitely that for Arsenal now.
Henry is absolutely bang on about the value that Raya provides this team on a regular basis. Obviously, there are some other brilliant candidates, but the goalkeeper has to be at least named in the conversation. He has deserved that much, if not more.
