Arsenal earned London derby bragging rights once again as they came from behind to defeat Chelsea 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
Morgan Rogers put the Blues in front with a well taken volley after just two minutes, but the Gunners fought back quickly for Kai Havertz to equalise with a brilliant strike from the edge. Martin Ødegaard then won it for his side minutes into the second-half when he collected a pass from Christos Tzolis to skip into the box and fire past Emiliano Martinez.
Mikel Arteta oversaw an outstanding team display as his side rallied to reply to an early setback and while every player on the pitch did that in great fashion, there were three that stood out as the best in the capital clash.
Three standout players from Arsenal's comeback derby win over Chelsea
1. Martin Ødegaard
It may surprise fans now, but prior to the summer transfer window, there was actually plenty of talk around Martin Ødegaard being moved on after two subpar seasons for Arsenal, but he has responded incredibly.
The captain continued his sublime start to the campaign with another top performance against Chelsea. Not only did he grab the winner with an expertly taken strike, he dominated the play in a number of areas.
Ødegaard created four chances for his team, playing multiple clever and intricate passes, as well as generating 0.74xG, more than twice as much as the Blues did (0.36xG). It was another standout showing in what is proving to be somewhat of a renaissance period for the Gunners skipper.
2. Kai Havertz
Tsamina mina, eh eh, waka waka, eh eh. You know the rest. It wouldn't be an Arsenal win against Chelsea without a Kai Havertz goal would it?
The German made a great impact against his former side once again as he pulled the Gunners level with a well taken strike after cutting inside from the right to unleash an effort into the bottom corner.
He continued to be a nuisance up front and was involved in the hosts' winner too as he dummied Christos Tzolis' pass for Ødegaard to collect and score. Havertz once again put on a standout display to knuckle down his spot as Arsenal's first-choice striker.
3. David Raya
A shaky start when he conceded from Rogers' volley inside two minutes could have been the start of an unfortunate day for David Raya, but he quickly turned it round with a formidable showing between the sticks.
The Spaniard was steady in the air, claiming a number of crosses sent into the box and looked unbeatable as he made four saves to keep Chelsea at bay. His best came right at the death when he denied Estêvão a last gasp equaliser with a flying save to tip his strike over the crossbar.
He also looked to launch swift counterattacks with long balls up field, some which paid off, others didn't. Raya will be disappointed to have conceded for the first time this season, but his performance against Chelsea was another sign that he will once again be one of the Premier League's best goalkeepers this campaign.
