Arsenal came from behind to draw 1-1 at Bayer Leverkusen in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash on Wednesday evening.

The Gunners went behind at the start of the second-half when Robert Andrich headed the hosts in front from a corner. Substitute Noni Madueke helped his side get back in the game when he won a penalty late on for Kai Havertz to convert against his former club.

It was quite a poor performance from Mikel Arteta's side as they struggled to get the better of the home team, but there were three standout performers on a disappointing night in Germany.

1. Noni Madueke

Noni Madueke didn't start the game, but he certainly made the most impact for his team when he came off the bench to replace Bukayo Saka after an hour.

The winger constantly made runs down the right side and wasn't afraid to take on the Leverkusen backline, with that willingness paying off when he won his side a penalty late on, albeit controversially, for Kai Havertz to score and level matters.

While he wasn't involved from the off, it was another performance that showed why Madueke was signed in the summer and he is once again making a case to be a starter ahead of Saka in the foreseeable future.

2. Jurrien Timber

Following a short period where he seemed slightly off the pace, Jurrien Timber has looked back to his best with his showing at Leverkusen the latest demonstration of his ability.

He was involved in what would have been a perfect opener for Arsenal when he sent the ball in to Saka with it ending up at Gabriel Martinelli's feet, only for him to rattle the crossbar.

His movement down the right side was slightly restricted in the first-half, but that changed after the break as he made a number of great runs down the flank to help his side out in attack while also doing his defensive jobs.

3. Piero Hincapié

Allowed to start against his parent club due to UEFA regulations, Piero Hincapié put in a solid display at a stadium he previously called home.

The Ecuador international seemed to play a slightly more inverted role than usual and despite struggling in central areas at times, he looked comfortable for most of the tie.

He did his part in attack and even tested Janis Blaswich, only to be denied a goal. However, that didn't take anything away from another positive performance in an Arsenal shirt.
