Arsenal found themselves put to the test once again as they fought hard to claim a 1-0 victory away to Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon.

A dull performance from the Gunners made it look as if the points would be shared at the City Ground, but Noni Madueke netted a late deflected strike from the edge of the box to snatch the win and ensure his side went back to North London happy.

The display was hardly anything to write home about with Mikel Arteta's side once again just getting over the line to grind out the result. As Arsenal were made to work for three points, there are three winners and three losers from their win at Forest.

Three winners and losers from Arsenal's hard-fought win at Nottingham Forest

Winner #1: Noni Madueke

Having come off the bench to score the winner, Noni Madueke will certainly have come away from the City Ground with high hopes about his role in the not-too-distant future.

The winger replaced a sloppy Eberechi Eze at half-time and while his performance wasn't the greatest football has ever seen, he did what was needed of him and showing his ability to cut in from the left and score with his weak foot is likely to have impressed Arteta.

Madueke probably did enough in the 45 minutes he was on the pitch to ensure he at least starts for Arsenal against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, and potentially for the remainder of Christos Tzolis' absence.

Loser #1: Eberechi Eze

And the victim of Madueke's triumph is Eberechi Eze. Despite scoring against Lille in the Champions League last week, the former Crystal Palace man didn't take his chance to impress and has suffered as a result.

He had just 22 touches before being hooked at the break and he was made to hug the touchline instead of coming inside to play a more familiar central role.

It's very clear that deploying Eze on the left does not work and Arteta will really need to think about how he can work him into the team as his showing at Forest has likely erased any chance of starts for now.

Winner #2: Myles Lewis-Skelly

Myles Lewis-Skelly didn't play a single minute against Forest as he remained on the bench as an unused substitute for the entire game, but he has still come out on top.

Taken out of the lineup to allow Bruno Guimarães another start in midfield, his qualities were very clearly missed throughout the tie with the Brazilian not being able to offer as much as he has done in previous weeks.

Having been given stints at left back in the Champions League and Carabao Cup, it's now time for Lewis-Skelly to return to the starting lineup in the middle of the park.

Loser #2: Bruno Guimarães

It's not so much that Bruno Guimarães played badly against Forest, in fact he was one of his side's better players, but it's more a case that in order to fit Lewis-Skelly back in, he will need to come out.

The Brazilian offers plenty of quality with his ability, but he doesn't do the same as the Hale End graduate can with Lewis-Skelly's tendency to switch from the left flank to back inside a key part in Arsenal's attacking sequences.

Guimarães has shown recently that he may be best used as an impact substitute, with both of his Gunners goals so far coming off the bench, and that could be a role Arteta explores for him.

Winner #3: Viktor Gyökeres

Viktor Gyökeres came off the bench for the last 25 minutes of the tie at Forest and while he didn't grab the goal that sealed the three points, he did impress more than he has done recently.

The Swede battled well, particularly in the air, and chased down the hosts' defenders when he could, with his display potentially putting him back in Arteta's thoughts.

Loser #3: Kai Havertz

If Gyökeres is to come back in, Kai Havertz will likely be the one dropped and he can't complain after his performance against Forest.

The German looked physically off it once again as he lost three of his six aerial duels and his only ground duel, failing to battle with the Garibaldis' backline, while also missing two shots in good areas.

Havertz will likely start once again against Bayern Munich, but his display at Forest has shown Arteta that he can't always be relied on to find the back of the net.
