Arsenal returned to winning ways with a 4-1 North London derby victory away to Tottenham to restore their advantage at the top of the Premier League table.

Mikel Arteta made two changes to the side that drew 2-2 with Wolves in midweek with Eze and Leandro Trossard coming in to replace Noni Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli.

The Gunners started the game strongly with Viktor Gyökeres having a header blocked by Radu Dragusin before doing well to break into the box and sending an effort flying just wide of the post.

A technical error with the linesman's microphone caused a lengthy stoppage after the Swede's effort, slighlty killing the visitors' momentum, but they continued to control the game with Spurs relying on rare chances to attack.

William Saliba went close to putting his side in front from a corner, but his header whistled past the post. However, the deadlock was finally broken when Bukayo Saka raced into the box from the right flank and sent a low cross for Eze to control before volleying into the back of the net.

Declan Rice had an absolute nightmare straight after the restart though when he lost possession to allow Randal Kolo Muani to dart into the area and beat Raya to net an instant equaliser and ensure the score was level at half-time.

Arsenal made the perfect start to the second-half when Gyökeres received the ball on the edge of the box from Jurrien Timber to turn and fire a brilliant effort past Guglielmo Vicario to restore his side's lead.

Spurs thought they had pulled themselves level again when Kolo Muani touched down a cross before beating Raya, but he was deemed to have pushed Gabriel to the floor for the goal to be disallowed, keeping the Gunners' lead intact.

Eze then got on the scoresheet once again when he started a nice move that ended with him meeting Saka's rebounded effort to add a third into an empty net.

Raya came to his side's rescue late on when Djed Spence sent a low cross in for Richarilson to flick towards goal. After taking a deflection, the ball looked set to trickle over the line, but the Spaniard did brilliantly to react and claw it away.

Seven minutes of added time allowed Arteta's side enough to add a fourth as Martin Ødegaard played a ball through for Gyökeres to set himself and fire in his second of the game, sealing a great individual and team performance.

That incredible showing in their biggest rivals' backyard saw Arsenal restore their five point lead at the top of the league table and put Wednesday's draw at Wolves behind them.

Here are the Arsenal player ratings from their 4-1 win at Tottenham.

Goalkeeper & Defenders

David Raya (GK) - 7.5/10 - Really good in the air to claim balls coming into the box and deal with set pieces. Reacted so well to deny Richarilson late on. Caused problems for Vicario with a long ball over the top early on. Will be disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet.

Jurrien Timber (RB) - 7/10 - Gave the ball away and fouled Sarr in response to pick up a yellow card. Sent a great ball into Gyökeres for the second before being withdrawn shortly after. Still looked a bit leggy but another improvement on recent performances.

William Saliba (CB) - 7.5/10 - Saw a header glance past the post in the first-half. Really solid defensively and managed to drift higher up the pitch when allowed.

Gabriel Magalhaes (CB) - 7.5/10 - Fouled by Kolo Muani to win a free kick and deny Spurs a second equaliser. A much better game at the back for him after his mix-up at Molineux.

Piero Hincapié (LB) - 7/10 - Positive on the left as he defended relatively well and also got up to help out in attack on a number of occasions. Another good performance.

Midfielders

Eberechi Eze (CM) - 8.5/10 - Got the opener when he reacted well to an initial poor touch to then meet the ball with a volley past Vicario. Linked up well with Saka for his teammate to almost score a third. Did add another shortly after though when he was in a great position to meet a rebounded effort. A brilliant performance ended by a late substitution.

Martín Zubimendi (CM) - 7/10 - Wasn't too involved in the centre of the pitch, but that was arguably a testament to his teammates. A quiet day, but that's not too much to complain about.

Declan Rice (CM) - 7/10 - Lost possession to allow Kolo Muani to race into the box and score the equaliser. Improved after the error to help his side to a crucial victory.

Forwards

Bukayo Saka (RW) - 8/10 - Did really well to race into the box and cross for Eze to fire in the opener. Almost scored a third after linking up really well with Eze. Saw an effort saved before the number 10 converted on the rebound. Forced off late on with a knock.

Viktor Gyökeres (ST) - 8.5/10 - Saw a header blocked by Dragusin before firing an effort past the post. Finally got on the scoresheet with a great strike from the edge of the box to restore his side's lead. Hold-up play was brilliant, especially in the build-up to the third.

Leandro Trossard (LW) - 6.5/10 - Wasted a chance when he won back possession before firing a wild strike over the bar. Saw an effort deflect to go just past the post in the first-half. Taken off for the final 15 minutes.

Substitutes

  • Cristhian Mosquera (on 57' for Timber) - 7/10
  • Gabriel Martinelli (on 76' for Trossard) - 6/10
  • Martin Ødegaard (on 76' for Eze) - 7/10
  • Noni Madueke (on 90' for Saka) - N/A
