5. Immediate Impact

This could be the biggest threat to a Sesko deal.
After five and a half years, one FA Cup and several domestic/European near misses, Arsenal need a striker who can help them win trophies NOW.
For that aim, they surely cannot look further than Gyokeres. The Sporting CP man is about to reach his prime years and has experience of playing – and thriving – in English football. Throw his current numbers into the mix and he looks like the perfect candidate for our attack.
Sesko, in contrast, is very young (soon to be 22 years old) and has not yet had a standout campaign, with some aspects of his game – e.g. one-vs-one finishing, playmaking – still requiring development before he can be truly considered world-class.
That is fair enough given his youth and there is every chance Sesko will go on to explode like Isak did in 2022 (when Arsenal opted against a move). But the Gunners simply cannot afford to wait and that small matter of ‘timing’ – as Arteta spoke of before – might well cost him an Emirates move.
Sorry Sesko.
Verdict: Viktor Gyokeres
Conclusion: Viktor Gyokeres
It is very hard to split them and, regardless of who Arsenal sign, either player would likely make a big impact in this team. However, Gyokeres holds the advantage of being Premier League ready today and boasts the English experience that Arteta loves in any new recruit. Sesko could still arrive and enjoy a brilliant season here next term, but Arsenal want a sure bet and Gyokeres is better positioned than him to provide it.
