It's been a few days since Viktor Gyökeres delivered his interview after the Ballon d'Or awards. Even now, it still feels like shade was thrown at Arsenal.
If you clicked on this article expecting to see digs taken at Viktor Gyökeres after his start to Arsenal life, you came to the wrong place. The Swedish striker has scored three goals in five Premier League starts - That's pretty good going, if you ask us.
Let's not beat around the bush; the step-up from Portuguese football to the English football is quite something. It can take weeks, months, even, for players to fully adjust. It took almost no time at all for Gyökeres to adjust.
Nevertheless, the bad is often spoken about louder than the good, and we can't deny that in some games, a lot has been left to be desired from Viktor Gyökeres.
But it's not entirely his fault.
Viktor Gyökeres makes his one Arsenal demand known
In his post Ballon d'Or speech, Viktor Gyökeres answered what it takes to be a great goal-scorer and in doing so, he accidentally named everything that his Arsenal teammates haven't given him.
In his own words, he said: "I think it's a lot of factors, you have to play in a team that creates chances, get chances, feel connected with the team, and then it's down to the desire to score. So, yeah, I think that's very important."
You can't help but feel for Gyökeres. He's played to the best of his ability and proven to be a great goal-scorer for Arsenal in his short time here so far. However, one can't shake off the feeling that he'd score more if he were given the chances.
Arsenal is very good against low-blocks. They find a way to break down that low block (often held by the less confident team), and it's probably for this reason that Gyökeres has scored against smaller teams since joining Arsenal.
However, the blame shouldn't be on him; the blame should be on his Arsenal teammates. It's not his fault that Arsenal can't exploit high defensive lines and play reserved football against big teams.
Perhaps Arsenal doesn't realize, but they are the team that's feared. If they just approached the Liverpool and Man City games positively, rather than holding meaningless possession, Gyökeres would have been given more chances to score.
The quiet part has now been said out loud: Gyökeres' Arsenal teammates need to create chances for him.
