What Samir Nasri just said is bigger rage bait than leaving Arsenal

You can't even respect the hustle.

I understand I'm entering murky waters by mentioning Samir Nasri on an Arsenal fan website. After all, there are fewer players that Arsenal fans despise more than him. However, what he just said matters to Arsenal fans.

“I’m not worried," began Nasri, with the same tone deaf messaging we've seen from everyone related to Man City. I sent a message to the president [Khaldoon Al Mubarak] last week specifically to offer support, to see if everything was okay… They’re pretty confident. They're confident about how it's all going to wrap up."

Regardless of whether they're confident they can drag the process out for as long as possible, the damage is done. Everybody knows what Man City as a club stand for, but alas. It gets worse...

“I’ve seen here and there former players talking. On the pitch, we won those titles. They can take them away from us, but we know we earned them!”

Man City players did not earn their trophies despite their forced narrative

Man City players absolutely did not earn the trophies, regardless of what they keep trying to tell us. It is a complete deflection of guilt and, let's face it, a punch in the gut to every football fan.

Man City players were absolutely incredible, but I hate the narrative that they earned the trophies. They did not. They signed for a cheating institution that refused to follow the rules. They were then competing against teams that followed the rulebook, so obviously they were going to win.

We all know why players left their clubs to sign for Man City - money. That is quite literally the only reason. It is very few players' dreams to play for Man City, but when the pound signs start lighting up, it then becomes a destination. And that's fine; this is their career, after all. But let's call it what it is.

Man City players have come out in their boatload, defending their right to boast the trophies, and players will continue to come out, but everybody else knows the truth. What happens on the pitch will always be secondary to what happens off the pitch. We can only respect what happens on the pitch when behaviour off the pitch is respectable. In this case, it's far from it.

Why this matters for Arsenal fans

Arsene Wenger gave everything to Samir Nasri, and Nasri stabbed him in the back by signing for the club that stood for everything Wenger stood against. For a brief period of time, people recognised the trophies he won at Man City, but in 2026, nobody recognises them.

Nasri coming out to say this hits harder for Arsenal fans, for all the wrong reasons. In a way, it confirms what we already knew about him. A player with the world at his feet could not care less about the game. He once had trophies to vindicate his move away from the club that gave him everything - and now he's desparately clinging to the legitimacy of them. We all know the truth.
