Thank you, Peter Bosz. You saved this Arsenal team from goalscoring purgatory. I didn't think we'd ever see a Gunners goal again.
PSV Eindhoven's willingness to 'get at' the Gunners played massively into the hands of a team who have so often been forced to pick locks within deep-lying defences. Their aggressive man-marking was manipulated with ease; their courageous build-up seized upon by a team which continues to rank among the best in Europe out of possession.
It's seven, it's heaven for Arsenal! ✨

The result on Tuesday night was an unleashing of frustration. From eight shots on target, Arsenal scored seven times. Their expected goals tally barely eclipsed 2.0. We used to pray for nights like these.
We've seen Mikel Arteta's Gunners put teams to the sword during his tenure, especially last season when they scored six on multiple occasions, but never before has an Arteta-led side entered the realm of seven heaven. That got me thinking: when was the last time Arsenal scored seven times in a single game?

If the Mayans had it their way, we would have missed out on a Theo Walcott masterclass by eight days. Fortunately, their end-of-the-world projection for 21 December 2012 didn't come to pass, and Newcastle travelled to the Emirates for their final outing of the year with the planet yet to succumb to a range of cataclysmic events.
Arsenal had enjoyed themselves over the festive period midway through the 2012/13 season, with Arsene Wenger's side entering their end-of-year clash with the Magpies off the back of three straight wins.
However, there was no sense that the two teams would play out one of the most memorable duels in Emirates history. Walcott was on fire, with the then-23-year-old playing to earn a new deal in north London. His contract was up in the summer, but Arsenal wasted no time in tying the winger down for the long haul. After he netted a hat-trick and set up another couple in the Gunners' 7-3 win on 29 December, Walcott put pen to paper just three weeks later.
This was a topsy-turvy affair which was 3-3 at one stage after Demba Ba struck twice for the visitors. However, Arsenal pulled away in the closing stages. Walcott's second handed the hosts a 4-3 lead after 73 minutes before he scored again after Olivier Giroud recorded a brace in the final six minutes.
The scoreline was harsh on Alan Pardew's Newcastle, who enjoyed a stellar 2011/12 campaign but struggled throughout 2012/13 before losing Ba in January and eventually finishing 16th.
So yeah, it's been well over a decade since we reached such scoring heights. All Arteta needed was Leandro Trossard, a midfielder playing up top, and a 17-year-old in his frontline.
